D5 Coronavirus Update from Councilmember Debora Juarez

When we help our fellow neighbors, we all come out stronger, more connected, and more resilient than before.

Dear Neighbors,

In these tough times, I know that Seattleites are going to do what we do best: lean into our humanity and respond calmly. When we help our fellow neighbors, we all come out stronger, more connected, and more resilient than before. My staff and I are here to serve you. We are working every day while taking precautions to protect public health. You can still reach us by email at debora.juarez@seattle.gov or by calling 206-684-8805. At this time, we are taking our meetings by phone or video chat. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

I want to start by applauding our first responders and the King County Public Health officials who have done an excellent job of responding to COVID-19 and keeping all of us informed. My office and I are in close, regular communication with the government agencies and other elected officials who are managing our response. I have full confidence in King County Executive Dow Constantine, Mayor Jenny Durkan, and our King County Public Health Department. At this time, we should defer to their leadership and expertise as it pertains to this public health challenge. Please read on to find more resources for COVID-19. In District 5, I am very concerned with how this will affect our elders, our small businesses, our homeless neighbors, and the people who lack health care and resources to self-isolate. I've made it a priority to address these issues with the Mayor's Office and City Council. That's why we are postponing our Dive in D5 event.

We are working diligently to find ways to support impacted communities and will be presenting solutions soon, including legislation. Lastly, I am proud of our City's response, especially in North Seattle. I've heard heartwarming stories about the outpouring of volunteers offering their assistance to our local nonprofits that are on the front-lines. Let's keep up this energy moving forward and continue to band together during these challenging times.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Debora Juarez
